In short
WHMCS is billing and automation software for hosting companies. Connected to your WHM, it takes orders, sends invoices, creates the cPanel account when a client pays, sends reminders and suspends unpaid accounts on its own. Hostnali reseller plans come with a free WHMCS licence (Budget Reseller gets it at a discount).
What WHMCS automates
| Without WHMCS | With WHMCS |
|---|---|
| Create every account by hand | Account created when payment arrives |
| Chase payments by phone | Automatic invoices and reminders |
| Remember renewal dates | Recurring invoices on schedule |
| Suspend late payers yourself | Automatic suspension, and unsuspension on payment |
| Support by WhatsApp only | Ticket desk and client area |
How to set it up
- Get a licence: ask our team for the WHMCS licence that comes with your reseller plan: free on Standard, Executive, Platinum and every master reseller plan, discounted on Budget Reseller.
- Install it on your website (a subdomain such as billing.yourbrand.com works well) with Softaculous or the installer.
- Connect your server: in WHMCS add a server with your WHM details, so it can create and suspend accounts.
- Create products matching your WHM packages (creating hosting packages).
- Add payment gateways so clients can pay by card, bank transfer and mobile money such as M-Pesa (our M-Pesa module for WHMCS) (taking payments).
- Brand it: logo, colours and email templates.
- Add domains: connect a registrar module to sell domains (selling domains).
Useful settings
- Invoice days before due: 7–14 days gives clients time to pay.
- Reminders: at 3 days before, on the day, and a few days after.
- Suspension: a few days after the due date, never on the day.
- Late fee: optional; many resellers prefer friendly reminders.
Don’t want to run WHMCS yet?
You can start with manual invoicing for a handful of clients, but switch to WHMCS before you reach 15–20: it saves hours every month and stops revenue slipping through.
